Rita Jin wins race for VP finance

Rita Jin will be the AMS’s next VP finance.

Jin, who is the current associate VP (AVP) finance, defeated Interfraternity Council President Noah Jassmann and AMS newcomer Angad Singh Gill to succeed outgoing VP Finance Mary Gan.

“I’m so thankful that the student body came out to vote,” said Jin. “I think this year is going to be completely epic, I’m not going to lie.”

Jin ran on a platform focused on creating a subsidy to make club admission fees more affordable for students, increasing the AMS and GSS’s health and dental coverage and streamlining a financial system upgrade for club treasurers.

As AVP finance for the past year, Jin has assisted Gan in coordinating with club treasurers and distributing funds. She also served as treasurer for the UBC Business Technology Club.

Jin said that her work will start right away, as soon as she celebrates.

“The first thing I’m going to do is thank my campaign team and everyone for voting and to focus on all the campaign goals that I’ve listed this year and get cracking on them.”

Jin’s term as VP finance will begin on May 1.
