Letter of Love: Little acts of kindness

Dear You,

February means Valentine’s Day but it also means academic crunch time.

In that spirit, may you allow yourself to be your best friend; may you allow yourself to be your ideal lover.

You are a capable fellow, even when it doesn’t feel like it. In those moments when things do start spinning, remind yourself that there are people around you whom you can spill to or rant to or just plain sigh to. And one of those people is, well, you.

Remember when you did yourself a million favours last year? When you asked for extensions and got them? When you went for long walks for a mental break of air and exercise? And all the little acts of kindness in between? Indeed, you are a proven kind one. A kind one to others, and definitely to yourself. Recognize that truth. Remember those moments. And know that you can be just as kind to yourself this time around, too. What a beautiful delight! You’re a beautiful delight!

Because in the end, knowing yourself and being your best soulmate is a great happiness that many of us can touch and cultivate in daily life. Often, it seems that you rely on the opinions of others or of the majority. Indeed, there’s a lot of wisdom in the experiences of those who’ve gone before us, our ancestors, our parents, our teachers and our friends.

And yet, we also need to come back to the wisdom that is always there inside you, that teacher inside you. That love inside you. And I love that for you.

I know we said no gifts, but I got you a little something. It’s that little flame inside that you’ve been looking for all this time. I hid it well, but it’s there. And I know you can find it.

Love,

You
