It seems UBC has reached the point where it can’t build much more without tearing existing buildings down. The General Services Administration Building was the recent victim of the university's thirst for development. Over the course of nearly three weeks of demolition, crews chipped away at the building bit by bit until the roughly 50-year old, mostly concrete, formerly asbestos-ridden giant was reduced to rubble.
Clearing out the area is part of UBC’s plans to redevelop University Boulevard to include faculty and staff housing and retail units, along with other construction.
