Curious about the crowd of people and blasting dance music at the Martha Piper Plaza fountain today? So were we. It turns out that today is the Persian New Year and the UBC Persian Club isn't letting the miserable weather dampen their spirits (metaphorically, if not literally).
Dozens of students have gathered to celebrate the turnover of the Persian calendar with music, dancing and general partying. The actual new year occurred at 3:45:11 p.m. local time, though the celebrations have been ongoing for most of the day.
