Eshana Bhangu and Kareem Hassib elected to Board of Governors

Eshana Bhangu and Kareem Hassib have been elected to UBC’s Board of Governors.

Bhangu and Hassib beat out former student senator Leonard Wang, and newcomers to student governance Onyekachukwu Odenigbo and Sultana Razia for seats on UBC’s highest governing body.

Bhangu campaigned on her results lobbying UBC on affordability as AMS president and VP academic and university affairs. She promised to continue her work on the Student Affordability Task Force and advocate for student priorities on Campus Vision 2050.

Hassib, a first-year student, ran on a progressive platform focused on pushing UBC to divest from companies involved in human rights abuses and to increase investment in student health care and housing.

Bhangu said she was “over the fucking moon” to have won and that she was going to go “eat some dessert” after the results.

Hassib said he was grateful for everyone who voted for him.

“I’m feeling incredible, and the first thing I’m going to do is rest and take a nap,” he said.
