AMS to hold a by-election for VP AUA in coming weeks

The AMS will be holding a by-election for VP academic and university affairs (AUA) after previous VP AUA Drédyn Fontana was removed from office.

On October 9, Council passed a motion from the Executive Performance and Accountability Committee to consider Fontana's "poor performance" in his role as VP AUA, among other concerns. On November 6, AMS Council approved a motion to remove Fontana six months into his term, effective immediately.

The AMS released a statement writing “no further information on this decision can be provided due to privacy reasons.”

Within the coming weeks a by-election will be held to fill the vacancy, but no specific dates have been released yet. For now, AMS President Christian ‘CK’ Kyle will serve as interim VP AUA.

“The AMS will ensure advocacy for students continues uninterrupted,” reads the statement.
