Students are currently unable to vote in the AMS VP academic and university affairs by-election. The period for voting began at 12 a.m. on January 21 and had been slotted to run until January 24 at 8 p.m.
In a statement to The Ubyssey, AMS Elections Administrator Sansian Tan wrote this issue is affecting all eligible voters — students who were registered in a course by the last day of November 2024 are eligible to vote in the elections.
This is also the first time voting is being done through Workday Student, and Tan explained that students enrolling and unenrolling in classes at the start of Term 2 can affect elector information.
Tan also wrote UBC Enrolment Services and UBC IT are working on fixing the issue.
"Once the ballot can be opened, I intend to extend the voting period to compensate for the missed days," wrote Tan.
In an email update on January 23, Tan told The Ubyssey that the new voting period will begin at 12:01 a.m. January 24 and run until January 31 at 5:00 p.m.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
