If you’re an avid reader of /r/UBC, then you’ve probably heard of /u/kinost, who is a frequent contributor on the UBC subreddit. He provides UBC students with information such as when our tax forms are out, tells us if we have to go to school on snow days and starts discussions about campus life such as what kind of clubs we want on campus.
Last night, Kinost revealed that his name is William Chen and that he is running for Senate. He released his campaign video, “Pirate Textbook Salesman — Vote William Chen for Senate,” at the same time. It's important to note at this time that the shirtless man making the same arm motion literally 10 times in the video below is not William Chen.

The 56-second video boasts a real pirate and a voice over artist. The pirate holds a very real pirate sword as he talks about thieving textbook companies who take our hard-earned doubloons. People appear to be happy as they took to the sea (of comments) to express themselves.
“I love you!” said WilliamtheBastardd to William Chen. “You have my vote :) / btw how do u pronounce ur reddit name is it ‘key-noast’ or ‘kee-naust,’” plana21 asked.
Others were not convinced. “God, don't you hate it when politicians just make claims with no proof that they can back them up? I demand to see a video of /u/Kinost actually fighting a literal pirate before I believe this thanks,” said TheVyso.
With a campaign expenditure limit of $500, we can't help but wonder what portion of his campaign funds went to paying someone to dress up like a shirtless Jack Sparrow.
