UBC alum Ludi Lin lands role of Black Power Ranger

UBC, you’ve produced a star! And we’re taking full credit for his success. Ludi Lin, a UBC theatre program alumnus, is starring in the new Power Rangers movie set to release in March 2017.

While Lin has been cast in over a dozen parts in the past five years, Power Rangers appears to be his breakthrough role.

Lin is playing the Black Power Ranger, Zack. Most of the other Power Rangers are taking on these roles as newcomers to the film industry, just like Lin. However, other cast members are definitely names to be recognized — Elizabeth Banks is playing the villain, Bryan Cranston is a mentor to the Rangers, and other big names such as Bill Hader, David Denman and Sarah Grey are cast as well. While we as UBCers claim fame to Lin’s success, we may as well take on Sarah Grey’s too, as she’s a born and raised British Columbian.

Through my expertise in social media creeping, I’ve learned quite a bit about Lin. Firstly, he likes Instagram. A lot. Especially those “bachelor” type photos, gazing off into nowhere, pondering some life-altering decision — like what’s for dinner? Secondly, he likes to show off his abs. Honestly though, if I had abs like his, I would too. Thirdly, he’s a philosophical dude that loves his mom. He credits his biggest accomplishment as mastering failure and his perfect day involves seeing his mom smile. He sadly did not reply to my Instagram DM, much to my heart’s dismay.

Unfortunately, Lin appears to keep his social media accounts strictly professional — meaning no cool shout out to UBC, although there is one to Vancouver, so that will suffice. The most we receive is from his website, “Theatre Performance – UBC – B.A.” under his training. Be sure to keep an eye out for Lin when the movie premieres next year and check out the trailer below if you haven't already!
