Student-run nonprofit Re-Defined is hoping to make a difference

UBC student Ritika Saraswat has started a new non-profit called Re-Defined, an organization geared towards “empowering people from marginalized backgrounds and helping them redefine themselves.”

As per their LinkedIn page, their mission of re-definition for marginalized people is focused on “providing them with resources in the form of support networks, mentorship and access to opportunities.” The group hopes to get the word out to interested student volunteers.

The organization, headed by Saraswat, includes several volunteer employees from UBC, as well as a student each from Simon Fraser University, the University of Toronto and Vancouver Community College. Their organization was founded in January 2022, and maintains a YouTube channel and a podcast, focused on introducing the viewer to diverse voices in a school and business context.

Their first community initiative involved distributing 100 menstrual care packages in the Downtown Eastside, and they are holding another drive this weekend with the goal of reaching 500 people. For further information, check out their socials!
