The BC Court of Appeals has ruled in favour of Trinity Western University (TWU), deciding that graduates of the school will be able to get accreditation from the Law Society of BC and practice law in the province.
According to Aaron Bailey, one of the student representatives on the Board, this is so they can “really get to the roots of the offerings and the products that are available, as well as what the community is asking from us.”
“Ultimately I was disappointed to hear what they had decided, but really, I attribute it to the structure that they have with student housing,” said Simpson when asked about the decision of the RHA to vote against supporting the AMS campaign.

Due to recent tuition increases, UBC's emergency bursary fund for international students will be increasing. In parallel to this, UBC is looking at how to better help students facing financial distress due to events in their home country.

Despite their disappointment with how the universities handled their cases, some of the panelists were optimistic that change is coming, and hope that universities will be open to this change rather than resistant.

Jonathan Ichiwaka, an associate professor in the philosophy department, said the issue has been ongoing since December, but has become more of a problem recently due to the new term starting and the issue taking so long to resolve.
According to a Canada Department of Finance study, “the current generation of young Canadians is, on average, wealthier than previous generations of young Canadians.” But one UBC prof says this isn’t true.
A group of first-year students at UBC have started up the One for One Movement on campus, supporting Syrian refugees by raising money for the ISSofBC. The group’s name comes from their strategy of asking all students for a one dollar donation each.
