You're walking down East Mall late one evening and feel someone watching you. You glance over your shoulder and swear that Buchanan Tower is a little closer than it was before. You walk faster.

From the emails warning that the hot water is undrinkable, the yellow-tinged or cloudy hot water flowing out of the tap, to the endless mental reminders to pull the lever to the right and up for cold water in lieu of hot water, UBC Risk Management Services has made it abundantly clear that hot water in certain buildings is not safe for consumption.

The early stages of the universe recently became a little more clear thanks to UBC professor Dr. Gary Hinshaw. Hinshaw and the WMAP team — 27 scientists throughout the US, Canada, and the UK — received the Breakthrough Prize for Fundamental Physics on December 3.

Planes are flying metal tubes and are pretty close to miraculous. But some people don’t like leaving the miracle of flight as just a miracle. For UBC students, engineering or not, that’s where the AeroDesign team comes in.

In keeping with the time-honoured tradition of UBC students begging for a fall reading break that never materialises, it seems that 2018 is not going to look any different. As it stands, UBC and McGill are the only major Canadian universities to not have reading breaks.
