It’s almost Halloween, which means it's time to dress up in your best costumes and express your scary spirit. However, with everyone stuck studying for midterms this time of the semester, it’s hard to feel prepared for Halloween activities.
If you feel like the holiday snuck up on you this year and you have no clue what to do to celebrate, look no further! We've curated a spook-tacular list of Halloween events, so you don’t have to do the searching yourself.
If you aren’t looking to go far this Halloweekend, you’re in luck. There are many events right on UBC campus (or just a short bus ride away) for partygoers, artists and anyone in between.
The Pit
If you want to dance the night away, the Pit has a few themed club nights coming up. All events are 19+ and you will need two pieces of ID to enter.
The Forestry Undergraduate Society, in collaboration with the Pit, is hosting a Wicked Woods Halloween Bash. For a spooky and mystical experience, head to the ‘forest’ (aka the Pit) on October 28. With DJs and drink specials all night, it should be a wicked time. Tickets are $10 for forestry students and $15 for other students.
Dawn Vancouver is coming to campus for the Pit of Nightmares. On October 31 from 9 p.m.–2 a.m., Dawn is stirring up a terrifyingly good time — and the first 25 people get free drinks. Tickets range from $10–12.50.
AMS Events is hosting a Hellfire and Halo Masquerade on November 1. You can become an angel or the devil at the ball, with free halo headbands, devil horns and masquerade masks. There will also be a costume contest, so bring your A-game with your most fang-tastic costume. Tickets are $30.
The Calendar’s annual Halloween party
The Calendar’s infamous annual Halloween party is back. Have a bewitching time from 6 p.m.–10 p.m. with food trucks, DJs and a photo booth. There are still some tickets available for the 17+ event on November 1, but they are almost out, so get them now! The last tier of tickets left are $30.
Hallowiener
At the Hollywood Theatre on October 30, UBC Ski and Board Club is hosting Hallowiener — you’ll have a spine-chillingly great time, because UBC Ski and Board knows how to party. You need to be 19+ to attend, and the event will be going from 9:30 p.m.–2 a.m. Tickets are $10 for UBC Ski and Board members and $25 for non-members.
Wonderland: Haunting of the Heart
If clubbing isn’t your thing, there are some other ghoulishly good events on campus. UBC’s Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice Undergraduates Association and UBC Exposure are co-hosting an ARTIVISM event called Wonderland: Haunting of the Heart on November 1. There will be live music, performances, art-making and vendors. Costumes are encouraged. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Dorothy Somerset Studios. Tickets are $5–10, but there are some free reserved tickets for people facing financial difficulties.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
If you like to have Halloween fun in a more cinematic fashion, check out the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Rio Theatre from October 29–31. Whether you’re a Rocky Horror virgin or a veteran, everyone is welcome. Don’t worry about bringing your own props to enjoy this cult classic on the big screen, as everything is provided — all you need to do is dress up in your best costume and get ready for a sensational time. Tickets are around $24 and are quickly selling out.
