Last week, UBC students received a broadcast email requesting feedback on a tuition proposal for the 2018/19 school year. Some students remain doubtful towards the effectiveness of these consultations. The proposal itself involves a series of tuition increases that are said to “reflect inflationary pressures” of the university’s operating costs.
Yesterday, UBC hosted a Day of Learning to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Japanese-Canadian internment, which saw the “mass exodus of 23,000 Japanese-Canadians” during the Second World War and their forced relocation from BC following the war.
This year, the AMS plans to improve student representation in the allocation process of the UBC Excellence Fund. This will be done through encouraging more consultations between the AMS and different student constituencies, including first-year constituencies.
