This year was a hectic one for the world and UBC was no exception. The university saw a quick end to a rookie president's tenure, followed by the election of a new one, bringing with him a cult of personality.

One of the goals of the Our Campus section is to offer exclusive insight into the lives of UBC’s hidden stars. From a cello-loving president to the chef hitting the refresh button, I’ve compiled a list of the top six Our Campus stories of 2016.

We spend every day throwing words at you — now it's your turn. Is there something you always thought we should be covering that's gone ignored? A personal slight we've inflicted upon you? Well, here's your chance.
The local scene is so happening that if you went to a show every day of the week, it would be quite some time before you'd have to go back again. So for those of you looking to traverse the comedy rooms of this city, here are some places to start:
The project began as a way for computer science majors Subion and Zhu to fill what they thought was an unmet need for students: a tool to connect with classmates, check past grades for courses and get into preferred sections.
At the beginning of November, Lauren Taylor and a team of students including Alaia Hamer, Edward Dawson, Stefan Zubovic and Sophie Tang began work,on, what would be for many, their largest and most ambitious project to date.
The Pit is known for its Wednesday night “Pit Nights” — a fascinating display of first-years experiencing their first drops of alcohol and student politicians emerging from their offices in a frenzied rage to punish their bodies with hard liquor.
“We’re not an abstinence-based service. We’re not your mom telling you not to do something. Ultimately, my big goal would be that every student on campus feels like they have a place to go to explore that balance with alcohol, drugs and technology.”
The UBC campus of five years ago was a strange place. There were roads where there shouldn't be roads and random open lawns that have since been supplanted by towering, concrete residences and fancy new lecture halls.
24 of the original 29 varsity teams retained their status, while five teams were reclassified as competitive clubs. The softball team appealed and sued the university and regained their status , but for the other teams, their future was less certain.
Pop Danthology 2012 received approximately 80 million views. “The success of this one project actually cannibalized my entire channel and OCPD blog. It’s not giving me the voice I want to have — it’s just mixing other people’s voices.”
Josh is The Ubyssey's Photo Editor and thinks he is funnier than he actually is. He's half-Jewish and still feels divided on the Israel-Palestine conflict. He enjoys politics, travelling, and gluten-free living.
Hana Golightly is a second-year media studies student and a staff writer for The Ubyssey. This year she has kept six small plants mostly alive, and that’s all anyone can really hope for if you ask her!
Koby Michaels is a third-year integrated science student, current science editor and former sports editor of The Ubyssey. He likes talking nerdy in bed, and refused to write anything personal for this issue.
