Last night, an individual passed away in the Nest — today the AMS released a statement expressing "sadness and grief, as well as our condolences to the family and friends of the person who passed."
“We ask our community to respect the privacy of the individual, and of their family and friends as they face this unimaginable loss,” wrote the AMS.
It added that no further details about the individual will be shared, except that they were not a UBC student.
Earlier today, the RCMP also released a statement, which said first responders had attended to the individual and despite life saving measures being taken, the person was declared deceased. RCMP noted that circumstances around the death were “not criminal in nature.”
Police are also not releasing further details, and said the B.C. Coroners Service is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death.
“We encourage students and impacted community members to lean into their networks of support, and connect to help as needed,” wrote the AMS.
