Matt Tan has been re-elected to the Board of Governors as UBC Vancouver’s staff representative.
Tan received 35.4 per cent of votes, beating out 11 other candidates. Turnout for this election was 8.6 per cent, with 2,159 votes cast.
Serving as the incumbent staff representative governor since 2023, Tan has worked at UBC for 18 years. He formerly served on the UBCV Senate from 2020-23, and is currently the associate director, partnerships, at UBC Athletics & Recreation. Before that, Tan got his Bachelor of Science degree from the university in 2007.
Tan said his first term as a governor gave him insight in how to advocate for everyone at UBC.
“Serving on the board has been the absolute honour of my life … I've learned a lot in this first term, and I want to keep building, keep going, finish off what I can, make a difference and make UBC better for everyone,” he told The Ubyssey during his campaign.
Now elected, Tan will continue his work on the board.
“A big thank you to all those who put their hand up to represent the staff voice in this election, to all those who voted, and a special thanks to those who supported and voted for me,” he stated in an email to The Ubyssey.
“I am grateful, honoured and excited to get back to work to continue making UBC better, for staff and for everyone."
Official results will be presented to UBCV’s Senate on Dec. 17. Tan’s term will end in 2029.
