Yesterday afternoon, AMS Elections said Chengwei Hu, the first year running for AMS VP student life, was dropping out of the race. The Ubyssey has since learned that Hu will remain a candidate, and had asked to withdraw from the race before changing his mind over the course of the day.

Around 3:30 p.m., students received an email saying Hu had withdrawn from the race. At 6:11 p.m., The Ubyssey received an email from Elections Administrator Keiko Prasadja saying Hu would remain a candidate. Hu confirmed this to The Ubyssey via Instagram. Just before 10 p.m. tonight, AMS Elections sent another email to students confirming that Hu will continue running for VPSL.

The Ubyssey has confirmed Hu officially requested to withdraw from the race the morning of Sept. 23, contrary to what he had told The Ubyssey when asked explicitly about the circumstances around his withdrawal. After Prasadja sent the email announcing Hu's withdrawal to the student body, Hu said he had changed his mind and asked to remain a candidate.

When asked if the sequence of events will impact his candidacy, Hu said "yes, it's unfair." He declined to comment further.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
