Our Men’s Soccer Reporter will cover UBC’s varsity men’s soccer team, both throughout their season and during the off-season.

Over the next year, the Men’s Soccer Reporter can expect to file:

• analyses of every regular season and playoff game that the team plays (splitting duties with another Men’s Soccer Reporter)
• profile pieces of athletes and coaches on the team
• extended, feature-length reports on the team
• analytical reports of the team’s performance over longer stretches of time
• commentary articles taking a position on an issue in relation to the team.

No prior experience in journalism is required. Ongoing training and training materials will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Reporting one to two stories per week, working on firm deadlines
• Practicing thoughtful journalism to the highest standards of ethics
• Developing relationships with sources to inform reporting
• Attending weekly meetings
• Being professional and responsive to editors, peers, and sources
• Staying expertly informed on matters concerning your beat
