Halftime Report: UBC Thunderbirds versus Calgary Dinos, Canada West football

Geoff Lister/The Ubyssey

As of halftime, the UBC football team is trailing the University of Calgary 20-13 in the Canada West final.

Calgary entered the game with the No. 1 ranked rushing attack in the conference and are living up to that ranking through the first 30 minutes. Canada West all-star running back Steven Lumbala has rushed for 134 yards on 16 carries. Calgary pivot Eric Dzwilekwski has helped the cause, adding 70 more yards on the ground.

Uncharacteristically, UBC came out of the gate running the ball and playing a two-tightend formation. The results haven’t helped their running backs gain much with Sam Adu leading with 22 yards. Billy Greene has kept the ball himself, leading the team with 72 yards.

Greene is 7 for 15 in the air for 147 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown pass was a monstrous 88 yard bomb to Jordan Grieve, who caught the pass and used a few shifty moves to make his way to the end zone.

Kicker Billy Pavlopoulous has kicked two field goals for the ‘Birds.

The half was a back and forth affair until the final minutes. Calgary drove down the field and Dzwilekwski rushed for three yards to the corner of the end zone for a late touchdown.
