UBC student pleads guilty to assault

UBC student Tyrel Craig, 27, has pled guilty to assault of a female student at Totem Park Residence in March of this year.

Craig has also pled guilty to assault of a police officer. He will return to court on October 7 for a pre-sentencing report.

In the early hours of March 18, Craig attempted to drag the student into the bushes in what was described as a violent assault. She was able to break free and alert the authorities. Craig was soon quickly apprehended and charged with assaulting a police officer and sexual assault. The sexual assault charge was later changed to assault.

UBC RCMP declined to comment on the plea.
