TransLink to study projects not included in their future plans
Monday, November 2nd, 2009
According to cbc.ca, TransLink has commissioned $10 million to study the logistics of two projects—despite the company not having the money to complete them.
The money will be used to study the rapid line and a rapid bus system for Surrey, but neither are included in TransLink’s Ten-Year Plan.
Ken Hardie, spokesperson for TransLink, said that both studies are part of the provincial transit plan and half of the costs of the study will be paid by the province, with the expectation that they will happen in the future.
However, Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan told CBC that TransLink was spending money on “dreams of fantasy” and that “there’s a certain arrogance in spending money on studies when you don’t even have the money to complete the [Evergreen] line you’ve promised to complete.”
