Environmentalist organization UBC Community 350 (UBCC350) helped organize “Storm the Riding” on Saturday, which saw volunteers canvassing homes in Christy Clark’s Point Grey riding. Volunteers collect signatures to show opposition to the project and the need for Clark to take a position on the potential pipeline.
The Graduate Student Society (GSS) inaugurated its first student club last semester, marking the first time that a student society aside from the AMS has supported non-departmental clubs.
The Where’s The Funding Coalition (WTF), which the AMS is a part of, launched its first campaign on Tuesday, sending thousands of cards to the provincial government in order to lobby for changes within provincial post-secondary funding. The campaign’s objective is to lobby the government on the coalition’s three main goals: eliminating the student loan interest rate, increasing capital grants funding and re-establishing needs-based grants for students.
The AMS has committed to the construction of a fully operational brewery in the new SUB to provide beer to the UBC community, including the Pit and the Perch (two of the establishments slotted for the new building). There is also the potential for beer to be sold at other venues on campus.

Next Generation University (NextGenU) has opened its virtual doors to become one of the first services in Canada to offer university-level education. Erica Frank, founder and executive director of NextGenU and a professor at UBC’s School of Population and Public Health, began working on NextGenU a decade ago.
Scott Andrews arrived on UBC campus a decade ago, straight from North Vancouver. He graduated in 2006 with a major in English and a minor in economics; he was also president of the fraternity Alpha Delta Phi.
